About Us
The Whiteladies Health-Share Project was started in 1984
to link the Whiteladies Health Centre in Clifton, Bristol with
the Institute of Health Management in Pachod, India.
Patients and staff at the original Health Centre in Whatley
Road that is now subdivided into two separate medical
centres
The Family Practice at Western College, Cotham Road, BS6
The Whiteladies Medical Group in Whatley Road, BS8
wanted to learn about health care and development issues
and to raise money to support the work of the Institute.
Oxfam helped to set up the link and over the following years
a number of personal visits have been made from Bristol to
Pachod and vice versa.
Originally the Whiteladies Health-Share Project (WHSP)
aimed to raise £1,000pa to help support the work of IHMP.
This has been achieved with much to spare, and well over
£100,000 has been raised to date.
Funds have been sent to India to help purchase the office in
Pune, to finance a second doctor for several years, to fund
the training of village women to become nurses, and to
provide many items of equipment for the hospital.
The Institute especially values WHSP?s charitable support as
it is on-going and can be used as a backup to any reduction
in programme funding from major charities.
Fund-raising events have included coffee mornings and teas,
sponsored cycle rides, swims and slims, concerts and carol
singing, and especially an annual garden party held at
Goldney Hall in Clifton, Bristol. We also have links with a
number of local church groups.
